1997 Rubies @ Carlisle

by Dale A. Gray

Wow was Corvettes at Carlisle GREAT! We signed up a BUNCH of Rubies at Carlisle. The registry is now approaching 2000, nearly one third of the 6749 Z25's built! Of course this means lots of work for Keith and Kathy. Therefore, if you ask them questions please give them time to answer...it will take them some time!

Pictured is Dale's #13032 as it appeared on display at Corvettes @ Carlisle.

Under the heading of "Best Story From Carlisle 1997"...A young man comes up to me at the 40th tent and sez "I just purchased a "MAROON" 1993 Corvette. "UMMMM" sez I, "are you sure?" He assures me it says MAROON on the Title! So I show him on my Ruby where to find the RPO list and how to locate the RPO Z25. I sent him away with an application form and ask him to check his car. You guessed it...about an hour later we added another RUBY to the list!!!!! BTW, we are glad to have him!

'WE SHOULD ALL LOOK THIS GOOD AT 40" posters are now available!!! The proceeds from the sale of the poster go towards saving "RUBY #1". Here is the story and how you can get your copy of the poster:

1993 ZR1 #00008 was the first 40th Anniversary edition Corvette produced. This Ruby Red Corvette rolled off the assembly line in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on March 26, 1992, and served most of its short, hard life as a Chevrolet engineering test and evaluation vehicle. Originally scheduled to be destroyed at the end of its service life, #00008 was saved from the crusher and given to the National Corvette Museum. Now, Ruby #1 needs your help! The 40th Anniversary Registry was given permission by Campbell Ewald, Chevrolet's advertising agency, to create and sell posters adapted from an ad that ran in the July 1993 issue of "Automotive News". The ad was designed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Corvette and beautifully portrays the Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette convertible. The poster is available in two forms: the signed limited edition poster, which sells for $35, and the unsigned version, which sells for $25. The limited edition poster has been signed by Sarah DeVries, the Chevrolet designer who conceived of the Ruby Red theme. The proceeds from the poster will go to benefit the National Corvette Museum, specifically this restoration project and the Archives. To Order a poster by mail, please send a check for $25 for the unsigned or $35 for the signed version payable to the Registry to: 40th Anniversary Corvette Registry P.O. Box 1094 Middleburg, VA 20118 Remember the signed version of the poster is limited and first come first served! LET'S SAVE THE FIRST RUBY!!!!!!!

If you see other Rubies please ask the owner to join the Registry...Make a copy or two of our home page at http://www.Corvette.net/clubs/16.htm and carry them with you. Give them to new members as this will give them all the info they need. If you know other Ruby owners that have already signed up please ask them to send me their email address if they have one. To date, we have 55 online members! That is less than 1% of the registry. Remember each newsletter we can email saves the registry (Keith) 32 cents!!!!!

That's all from me for now but I am ....STILL WAVING!!!
