President of Club Corvette Denmark.
Club Corvette Denmark is the only Corvette Club in Denmark. For you readers, who don't know where Denmark is located, it's in Europe, just north of Germany, and just south of Sweden. It's part of Scandinavia, and has about 5 million citizens. Club Corvette Denmark has about 75 members, and usually gets about 10 Vettes attending the summer-meet. Not many compared to other shows, but this year a record was set, with 30 Vettes. The press in Denmark covered it, due to a massive campaign, and we got a lot of new members thanks to the coverage.
The summer-meet was held on a litle island called Samsø, which mostly is known for a big rock-concert, and the beautiful scenery. The event started on Friday the 6th of June.
There were 5 Vettes from Sweden, and one all the way from Norway. The Vettes ranged from 1956 to 1988 models. Due to big taxes on cars like Corvette, most Corvettes in Denmark are older (older cars = less tax).
One of our members, has a summer-house on Samsø, and that was the place for check-in, breakfast, dinner and party. A big parking lot for Corvettes only was placed in the garden, and a big tent for party, barbeque, and a draft-beer both.
All Corvetters came in on Friday (except a few who had to repair their Vettes all night long).
Saturday morning started with breakfast, in American style, with pancakes and syrup, imported from the US.
After breakfast we started our Rally, with lots of Corvette questions. The Rally was 50 kilometers long, and took us up to the northern part of the island, were lunch was set up as a picnic. When all the Vettes were gathered, we were surprised by an airplane, flown by one of the guys who partied with us all night. He took some nice pictures of all of us from the air.
After lunch, we cruised down to another member's inn, were we all lined up for judgement by the public. 300 people came on and voted for Peoples Choice. Michael Tornkjær von with his 1966 Cab, Black/Black 427, with sidepipes, knockoff wheels and matching numbers.
The Members Choice trophy vent to Tom Roy Simenstad from Norway in his Red/White 1956, which was a real gem, original with a Duntov Cam and all.
The Long Distance trophy vent to Håkan from Sweden, who drove about 300 kilometers and took a ferry twice to get there.
After the show, we vent back to the summerhouse and partied all night. For dinner it was self-service on the grills, and lots of barbecue was prepared. And of course the famous beers from Calsberg and Tuborg, made in Denmark.
On Sunday, people got up a little later, and after breakfast and the last packing, people went of to the final cruise, and burgers for lunch. Then, on to the ferry and off in all directions.
It was a very fun meet, and very well organized by our local team (Morten and Svend and his wife Ina).
We in Club Corvette Denmark, are learning how to have big Corvette Meets, and are ready for next year where we hope to have even more Corvettes, and welcome all members and guests from all over the world.
